Prosthodontics
This is the area in dentistry that involves extensive rebuilding of broken teeth or failing restorations. It often involves years of neglect brought about from fear, finances, poor dental advice, and periodontal disease. Examples would be teeth, crowns or bridgework that have loosened or broken resulting in areas of missing teeth, an inability to chew properly or an unattractive smile. Studies have shown that an unhealthy mouth can lead to problems in others parts of the body. Research has proven that gum disease can be a contributing factor in heart disease.
Cases can be complex and often other dental specialists are needed to help with the necessary treatment. Often crowns, bridges and implants are used to properly restore a patient's mouth. A reconstructed patient not only chews better from a properly designed bite, but also looks better. The end result is a healthier mouth and a beautiful smile!
