Bonding

Bonding is a great technique for achieving a better looking smile.  It is used for closing gaps, covering over discolored spots, replacing chipped corners on teeth, filling cavities or just making teeth look whiter are all achieved with bonding.   Bonding is a generic term, which is really a technique that is used to adhere materials to a tooth.  Those materials can be veneers, crowns, inlays, or composite.  The composite material is what is commonly referred to as bonding.  Composite is a resin embedded with quartz and other glass fillers. 

Bonding material is tooth-colored and is applied to the surface of the tooth. It is artistically shaped, sculpted, smoothed, and polished to achieve the desired effect and then a blue, non UV, light is aimed at the material to harden it.  Voilà! The bonding material is hardened in seconds and the teeth are beautiful!

Following braces the mal formed teeth now had to be restored with bonding to make the teeth look normal in shape for this twelve year old.  We were all excited with the results.

Young boy after having braces removed found that the teeth were ravished with decay and white decalcification lines.  After thoroughly removing all the decay the teeth were bonded with a tooth- colored composite resin, making the teeth look normal again.

Gum tissue-colored composite resin was used to fill in the big hole between the two front teeth, improving the smile.

In the before picture we see a discolored tooth and the biting edges chipped.  The dark tooth is bonded with tooth-colored composite and the teeth are cosmetically contoured.
